This is the second in a series of posts showcasing designers that dress Selena Gomez.
The second designer I am featuring from NYFW is Vera Wang.
Her Story
Vera worked as an editor for Vogue for 15 years, and joined Ralph Lauren as Design Director for two years before launching her first bridal collection in 1990. Victoria Beckham wore Vera Wang for her wedding to David in 1999, and in 2002 Vera launched her Ready-to-Wear collection. Through a number of licensing agreements, Vera’s name is now associated with everything from stationery to bedding.
Vera’s bridal designs bring an edginess to a traditional business, but her ready-to-wear is more experimental. Selena’s 2015 Met Gala gown was bespoke, but took a lot of its inspiration from Vera’s bridal collection at that time (See the link at the bottom of this piece).

It was clear from Vera’s Spring/Summer 2017 collection, that the off-the-shoulder trend is to continue into next year. Vera said of this collection “I’ll make it simple for you: black, black, black.” and she was right. Similarly with Cushnie et Ochs, black dominated the colour scheme, a colour most designers reserve for their Fall collections.
Look 1
A white corset top/jacket combination, with black chiffon sleeves and mini skirt. I can see Selena rocking this edgy look in a photoshoot.

Look 2
A black tunic with white back insert, overlaid with black lace, underneath are black shorts, and finished off with a peplum skirt. Perfect for Selena for running around town promoting a single or album!

Look 3
Black tuxedo style jacket over a dip hem skirt – a twist on wearing-a-tux-as-a-dress started by Nan Kempner in the 1960’s. A look that Selena could definitely pull off on the red carpet.

Look 4
A break from the black with this white short sleeve top embellished with oversize pearls, a sheer white midi skirt with large pearl embellishment and an added peplum. The skirt would be totally impractical to sit on, so perhaps not a good choice for an awards ceremony, but perfect for Selena to wear during a performance.
Look 5
Black corset top, resembling a cut-off tuxedo revealing a white tank top. Off-the-shoulder leg-o-mutton sleeves and a black maxi skirt would ensure all cameras were pointed at Selena if she wore this on the red carpet.
